Our Club

Great Baddow Bowling Club was formed in 1927 and is a thriving lawn bowls club that prides itself on being a welcoming, friendly, sociable Club where playing bowls for fun goes side by side with playing competitively.

We are situated in the Recreation Ground, just off the Baddow Road in the centre of Great Baddow, a little over a mile from the centre of Chelmsford and there is ample free parking either next to the Club or within easy walking distance.

The Club is affiliated to Bowls England, Essex County Bowling Association, Essex County Women's Bowling Association, Chelmsford and District Bowling Association, Central Midweek Bowling League, and Chelmer Ladies Bowling League.

We have a full size 6 rinks green and a clubhouse that has been developed over recent years by the Club’s own members, into a large, modern and well equipped facility.  There is a well stocked licensed bar for members which is open throughout the summer season and periodically in the winter.

The Club has a membership of close to 100 active players, men and ladies plus over 40 social members.  Bowling abilities range from beginners to League, County and to International standard. We compete in 2 local evening leagues and have many members playing in competitions at local, County and National level.  In addition, there are 18 different internal knock-out competitions, Ladies, Men and Mixed which culminate in the Club's Finals Days in September and a Trophy presentation evening in November.

Despite this we believe bowls is a sport to be enjoyed at all levels and as such, the Club regularly has opportunities for social and less competitive bowling with twice weekly 'roll ups'.  Mixed 'Friendly' matches against other local clubs are also organised throughout the season together with our own very special Club Gala days. These Gala Days are a day of fun bowls followed by a sit down buffet or meal in the evening.

During the summer season which runs from April to September, the green and clubhouse is open 7 days a week and we also have a Friday Evening Club Night which is an opportunity for all members, old and new to socialise and enjoy the relaxing facilities. These nights continue on a reduced basis in the closed season, October to March, when the clubhouse is open on the first Friday every month from 8.00pm.

Once a year the Club runs it's very popular Quiz which is open to members, friends and family and also has teams in the Chelmsford & District Crib League with matches at the Club on Thursday evenings.
