Great Baddow Bowling Club
Great Baddow Bowling Club was formed in 1927 and is situated in the recreation ground in Great Baddow a little over a mile from the centre of Chelmsford.
The Club is affiliated to Bowls England, Essex County Bowling Association, Essex County Women's Bowling Association, Chelmsford and District Bowling Association, Central Midweek Bowling League, and Chelmer Ladies Bowling League.
Originally consisting of three rinks, a further three were subsequently added to complete the present full size six rinks green you see today. The original modest clubhouse has been developed over recent years largely by the Club’s own members, into the large, modern and well equipped facility that now exists. Ample parking is available close to the club within the recreation ground.
The Club has a membership of more than 100 active players (approximately 70 Men and 35 Ladies) with bowling abilities ranging from novice to international standard. We compete in 2 local evening leagues and have members engaged in competitive bowling at local, County and National level. Despite this there is ample opportunity for social and less competitive bowling through 'roll ups', friendly matches against other local clubs and our own special club days.. We also have a Friday evening Club Night which is very popular with both newer and not so new bowlers.
In the bowling season which runs from April to September, the green and clubhouse is open 7 days a week, with an active social side. During the close season the clubhouse is open on a limited basis for cribbage on Thursday evenings - we have a team in the Chelmsford and District Crib League – and for activities such as bingo on a Friday afternoon. The clubhouse is also open the first Friday every month during the close season from 8.00pm for a social get-together.
